Anti Blanket Weed

A simple additive to reduce blanket weed growth in planted ponds

Anti Blanket Weed

Dose Guide

You will need 100g for every 2700 litres (600 gallons) or 1oz per 170 gallons (770 litres). Weigh out the correct amount and add to a bucket of warm water, not boiling, and stir until all dissolved. Apply as evenly as possible across the pond, a plastic watering can is best. The water may go milky for a few days, this is normal.

To start with treat every 10 days for the first month i.e. 3 times the first month. In stubborn cases you may have to treat every 10 days for 2 months. Then treat once per month.

Factors which may effect the results

  • High levels of waste material in the pond. Vacuum frequently or use a net to remove waste.
  • High Nitrates. Test with a test kit and if levels are high do a water change.
  • Hardness. If the water has high levels of calcium it may take longer to work.

Important notes

During treatment the blanket weed will die and will cause pumps and filters to clog with algae. Take as much or the blanket weed out as you can before treating the pond. Make sure you clean them regularly and have extra aeration as a back up. Add a filter bacteria starter to help the filters cope if waterquality drops.

Pond volume calculation

  • Metric Meters: Length * Width * Depth * 1000 = Liters.
  • Imperial Feet: Length * Width * Depth * 6.23 = Gallons.
