Algae Controller Media Refill

If looked after correctly, each refill should treat between 50,000 and 100,000 gallons although this does depend on a number of factors:

  • Maximum flow rate is 100 gallons per hour ( 450 litres per hour ) more than this will compact the media.
  • The amount of chlorine in the water, the more there is the less water the media will treat, as it also removes chlorine.
  • Leaving it out in all weathers with stagnet water in it will reduce the life to a few thousand gallons.

It can be run with a carbon post-filter (ie after it) to reduce disolved organic compounds which can slow it's working. It is NOT possible to run pond water through it.

Precautions

  • Do not use any copper based chemicals.
  • Not back washing it will stop it working within a few weeks.
  • Pumping pond water through it stops it immediately!
  • It does not work in acid water areas. Please check pH before ordering. If it lower than 7.0 it will not work.

Important notes

During treatment the blanket weed will die and will cause pumps and filters to clog with algae, (Take as much or the weed out as you can before treating the pond.) make sure you clean them regularly, and have extra aeration as a back up. Add ABA N-1 to help the filters if waterquality drops.

The carbon post filter

This is used to reduce dissolved organic products and should be placed after the Algae Controller, as it will also reduce the chlorine in the tap water and this will exhaust it quickly.

Refills are 1.8kg of media sent baged loose and needs to be poured into the canister's inner container.

Pond volume calculation

  • Metric Meters: Length * Width * Depth * 1000 = Liters.
  • Imperial Feet: Length * Width * Depth * 6.23 = Gallons.
